Empirical Learning Principles

We base our programs on empirically derived learning principles.  When research is conducted using true experimental designs where subjects are randomly assigned to groups, the validity of the results can be assured.  Unfortunately, much of the research on teaching is done to support a particular theoretical or philosophical position.

In school environments it is difficult to implement well controlled, randomized design research.   Many of the studies that are done to support an educational position lack the needed rigor for valid findings.  Fortunately, the field of learning research contains volumes of research using sound testing and research designs.

Our approach draws heavily from learning research.  You may have noticed that we focus on learning and not teaching or curriculum.

Teaching and curriculum are methods used to aid in a student's  learning.  By focusing on the student's learning we can make recommendations about teaching, curriculum, management, reinforcement contingencies, etc.
